What does RSVP REALLY Mean?
It's French for "respondez s'il vous plait" which means, as you can guess, please respond.
Every invitation should include a self-addressed stamped envelope. It's not only
generous to take care of this expense, it's smart! If guests get the impression
you're cheap, they'll return the favor. If they think you're casual about their
responding, they may decide not to ever notify you of their attendance and they
might show up with all their six children!
Give yourself plenty of time to address the envelopes and receive the replies. If someone
hasn't responded by two weeks before the wedding, don't panic. Delegate someone
to call the guest.
Always put the return address on the envelope. This ensures the sender that if there is a
problem with delivery, the invitation will be returned to that return address.
Proper steps can then be taken to ensure a new correct delivery.
An easy way to keep track of who's coming is to lightly pencil a number on the back of the respond card. Then if
someone responds but forgets to write in their name, you can match that guest's
name on your numbered reference list.
Make a master invitation list on which you record, by number, those to whom you've sent
invitations, their responses, and the total number of guests attending. By doing
this, you'll save yourself a lot of frustration and time.
Every word on an invitation is written out. Do not use abbreviations. Spell out the guest's
full name and address, including the word street, avenue, etc.
